(For users having their residence in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland)
Welcome to Roblox! This summary explains the most important rules of Roblox in easy-to-understand words. Whether you’re a kid or a grown-up, this will help you learn how Roblox works.
Remember, this is just a summary – it does not take the place of the Roblox Terms. We simplify things in this summary and we use examples to explain things more clearly, but the examples do not cover everything. If you ever want to know more details or the exact rules, read the full Roblox Terms. Only the Roblox Terms are binding, not this summary.
If you’re under 18, ask a parent or guardian to read and explain this to you. You must create your account together with your parent or guardian. They must allow you to use Roblox and they must also accept the Roblox Terms for you. A parent or guardian is a grown-up who takes care of you, like your mom or dad.
1. What do I need to know before using Roblox?
What is Roblox?
Roblox is a virtual universe, a place where you can play, create, share content and connect with others. The things you and others create, upload or share on Roblox are called Content.
What am I agreeing to when I use Roblox?
When you use Roblox, you agree to follow Roblox’s rules and be respectful to other people. For this reason, we created the Community Standards to describe what is allowed and what is not allowed when you use Roblox. More rules are in other Legal Documents. You agree to follow these rules when you use Roblox. If you believe someone isn't following the rules, please let us know immediately by using our Report Abuse feature.
2. How can I use Roblox safely?
What do I need to do to use Roblox?
Before you can use Roblox, you need to create a Roblox Account. You must choose a username, but please do not use your real name. You must also choose a strong password to protect your Roblox Account and give us your correct date of birth, so we can protect you and others.
How old do I need to be to use Roblox?
You must be at least five years old to have a Roblox Account. If you are under 18, some features are not available to you. Your parent or guardian can allow you to use more features by using Parental Controls.
What if I am under 18?
If you are under 18, you have to ask a parent or guardian if:
you are allowed to create a Roblox Account and use Roblox;
you don’t understand a rule;
you want to change important account settings;
you want to buy or use Robux or paid features;
you receive a message that worries you;
someone asks you for personal information;
you think someone else may have logged into your account.
What do I need to know as a parent or guardian?
If you are a parent or guardian, you must create a Roblox Account together with your child. Please read the Roblox Terms carefully with your child and explain what they mean. You will be bound by the Roblox Terms as well, and you are responsible for all activity by your child on Roblox. You can create a Parent Linked Account and use Parental Controls. These tools help you manage your child's Roblox experience, improve safety, supervise accounts, manage settings and restrict certain features.
Why is it important that I keep my account safe, and how do I do that?
You are responsible for everything that happens with your account. For example, if someone else uses your account to harm another user, you are responsible for this. This is why it is so important that you keep your account safe. We do our best to make Roblox a safe and fun place for everyone, and we need you to do the same. Keep your password secret and don’t sell, share or let another person use your account.
For helpful tips, see Keep Your Account Safe. If you think your account was used by another person, please contact Roblox Support immediately.
What if I don’t want to use Roblox anymore?
You can deactivate or delete your account. Deactivation hides your profile and disables your account.
Deleting your account removes your account forever. You may lose your Robux, creations, and other things connected to your account.
You can find more information here.
3. What are the rules?
What am I not allowed to do?
You must not use Roblox to break the law, hurt people, trick people, treat people unfairly, or do anything else that goes against the Community Standards.
This means, for example, that you must not:
bully, harass or threaten others;
try to trick or scam others;
share harmful or illegal content;
share private information about yourself or others;
pretend to be someone else;
upload content from someone else if you do not have the right to use it;
try to get around Roblox’s safety or security systems.
Can I create any content I want?
You are responsible for the content you create. This includes games, pictures, videos, text, sounds and other things you create or share. Please ensure your content does not violate the Roblox Terms, including the Community Standards, and the law. You must have the right to use the content and to share it on Roblox. Roblox can always block, remove or delete content if you break the law or our rules.
If you are paid to promote something on Roblox, like a paid partnership, you must say so clearly.
Who owns the content I create?
The content you create belongs to you. However, if you modify Roblox Classic Avatars, those modifications may belong to Roblox.
By uploading the content on Roblox, you allow Roblox in particular to show it, use it and commercialize it. Other people may be able to see and use your content as well. You usually will not get paid for this unless a special rule says you can. You can delete your content later, but people who already have it might keep using it, and so might Roblox. For details on your license to Roblox including its conditions, scope, limitations and what Roblox may do, see Section 3 of the User Terms.
4. How does Roblox keep my experience safe? (Moderation)
How does Roblox check that users follow the rules?
Roblox may review content and activity on Roblox to help keep everyone safe, for example, to check whether it follows the Roblox Terms, including the Community Standards, and the law. However, Roblox is not required to review content and activity. If you use communication features, Roblox may review the content of your conversations as well as other non-public content.
Roblox uses automated tools, human review or both. Automated tools are computer programs that look for things that might break the rules. Human reviewers are people who are trained to review content. You can find more information on the Content Moderation on Roblox page.
For UK users, Roblox has a specific UK OSA Annex that explains online safety related matters to you.
What should I do when I see something against the rules?
If you see content or behaviour that seems wrong because it is illegal, unsafe or against the Roblox Terms, including the Community Standards, you can report it using Roblox’s reporting tools, including the Report Abuse feature.
What happens if someone breaks the rules?
If Roblox finds content or behavior that breaks the Roblox Terms or the law, Roblox may impose restrictions, including:
- give a warning;
- remove, block or delete content;
- remove or restrict your access to Roblox;
- terminate or suspend your content or your account;
tell the police or other authorities.
If Roblox restricts you or your content, Roblox will tell you why, unless there is a good reason not to, such as a legal rule or keeping people safe. In that case, Roblox will tell you later, once Roblox is allowed to.
In particular, Roblox will impose such restrictions if you misuse Roblox, for example, by repeatedly uploading content that violates the Community Guidelines. Roblox will consider many things to find misuse and appropriately react, including
how you used Roblox in the past,
if and how you violated Roblox’s Community Guidelines in the past,
how bad the infringements were and
if possible, if you knew that you were breaking the rules.
For example, if you post hate speech, Roblox can warn you or suspend you for 1 day or longer. If you repeatedly break the rules or if you severely violate them, Roblox may terminate your account, so you cannot use Roblox anymore. For details, see Section 4.6 of the User Terms.
5. What can I do if Roblox made a mistake?
If you think Roblox’s restriction was wrong, or if you want to explain why you disagree with a decision, you can ask Roblox to review the decision.
To ask for a review, contact Roblox Support. You can find more information on the Appeal Your Content or Account Moderation and the Content Moderation on Roblox pages.
Does Roblox have to review the decision?
Roblox may refuse to review content moderation complaints or reports if you seriously or repeatedly misuse the review or reporting tools. For example, this may happen if you send many reports that are not truthful.
Are there other ways if I disagree with Roblox’s decision?
In some cases, you may ask an independent organisation to look at what happened. In the European Union, these are called out-of-court dispute settlement bodies. They are listed on an official website.
Additionally, you may either go to court or arbitrate. We explain this, including mandatory arbitration, in more detail below under “What if I have a dispute with Roblox?”
6. What do I need to know about recommendations, rankings and ads?
How does Roblox decide what to recommend to me?
Roblox may recommend games, experiences and other content that match your interests. On the Recommendations and Ranking on Roblox page you can find more information about recommendations and rankings, including how they work and how you can change them.
How do I know if something is an ad or sponsored?
If a user is paid to promote something, like a paid partnership, they must clearly say so. Likewise, if a user pays Roblox to publish an ad or feature the user’s content, Roblox will mark such content and publish details on the advertiser and the ad. For helpful tips on understanding ads on Roblox, see Ads on Roblox.
7. What are Robux and other paid features?
What are Robux?
Roblox offers Robux for use on the Platform and is available for purchase. Robux is digital content that has the function of a virtual in-game token. You can use Robux to unlock and use things on Roblox. For example, you can use Robux to get a skin for your avatar, or to access certain games or items. Robux stay in your account. They are not real money and they do not have any real money value. If your account is closed or deleted, you may lose your Robux. Roblox may take them away if you break the rules. If you use Robux, you are always dealing directly with Roblox, not with the other users who created the game or item.
The things you can use your Robux for change over time. Also, the number of Robux you need to give to unlock or use things may change.
Are there other features on Roblox that I can buy with real money?
There are also things you can buy with real money, like items in the Creator Store for our professional creators. Generally, you pay just once. There are also subscriptions, which you keep paying for until you cancel them. For Roblox Plus, for example, you pay every month to have access to additional features.
The price of things you pay for, like subscriptions, can change. If it does, Roblox will tell you in advance. If you don't like the new price, you can cancel before the price changes. For details, see Section 6.6 of the User Terms.
What if I change my mind? (Right of withdrawal)
You may have a right of withdrawal from contracts within 14 days without giving any reason. To withdraw, you can use our website https://poblox.icu/support. Roblox will review your request. If your withdrawal is confirmed, Roblox will refund you, but you will also lose access and must give back the purchased or subscribed items or features.
If you buy digital content and start using it right away, Roblox may ask you to give up your right to withdrawal.
For details regarding the right of withdrawal, see Section 6.7 of the User Terms.
8. What is AI and how may I use it on Roblox?
Some Roblox features may use artificial intelligence called AI. Things created by AI are called AI output.
AI can help create or change content. If you use AI features, you must follow the Roblox Terms and the law. Do not share private information like your full name, address or passwords with AI tools. AI can sometimes make mistakes or create things that are inappropriate. You must check AI output before you use or share it.
9. Can Roblox change the service and the Roblox Terms?
Can Roblox change the service?
Roblox may change or pause or stop parts of the service. Roblox will inform you about relevant changes to the Services in a clear and understandable way. For details how Roblox may change the service see Section 7 of the User Terms.
Can Roblox change the terms?
Roblox may also change and update the Roblox Terms. Roblox will usually inform you of important changes by email, in-app message or another reasonable method. For details how Roblox may change the terms see Section 14.8 of the User Terms.
What if I don’t agree with the terms anymore after the change?
If you continue using Roblox, you accept the changes. If you do not agree, you must stop using Roblox and delete your account before the changes take effect. For details how Roblox may change the terms see Section 14.8 of the User Terms.
10. What if I have a dispute with Roblox? (Conflicts and Disputes)
As a Consumer, you can bring the dispute to the courts where you live.
If you are a Business User, we encourage you to try to solve the dispute informally through an informal dispute resolution process. Business Users agree to arbitration as set out in more detail in the Roblox Terms and waive their right to litigate.
For details on litigation and required arbitration, see Section 11.2.3 of the User Terms.
What is a Consumer and a Business User?
You are a Consumer if you use Roblox not as a part of a trade, business, craft, or profession. Otherwise, if you use Roblox as a part of a trade, business, craft, or profession, you are a Business User.
11. Who is responsible for my use of Roblox? (Indemnification)
When you use Roblox, you agree that you are responsible for what you do. If you cause Roblox legal problems or costs because you did something illegal or unlawful while using Roblox, you will have to pay those costs and help Roblox fix the problem. This also includes others who work with Roblox. In some situations, Roblox may choose to handle a legal claim itself. If that happens, you agree to help by providing information or cooperating when reasonably needed. For details on indemnification, see Section 12 of the User Terms.
12. What is Roblox responsible for? (Limitation of Liability)
Roblox is generally not responsible for content that other people make or share, even if that content is sometimes wrong or unpleasant. Roblox stays fully responsible when the law says it must be, for example, if a Consumer’s body or health is injured because of Roblox’s actions or if Roblox intentionally or grossly negligently violated a duty. Where the law allows it, Roblox’s liability is limited. For details on limitation of liability for Consumers and for Business Users, including a liability cap for Business Users, see Section 13 of the User Terms.
13. How can I end my relationship with Roblox? Can Roblox end the relationship as well? (Termination and Survival)
You can end your agreement with Roblox at any time by deleting your account or by telling Roblox in writing.
Roblox may also end the agreement with you. Usually, Roblox will inform you before the agreement is terminated.
Some parts of the Roblox Terms continue to apply even after termination, because they still matter for things like rights, responsibilities, disputes or safety. For details, see Section 14.2 of the User Terms.
14. Which laws and court apply if there is a disagreement? (Governing Law and Venue)
What if I am a Consumer?
If you are a Consumer, the laws of the place where you live will apply. If you and Roblox have a legal dispute, you and Roblox can go to the courts where you live. You and Roblox may also go to other courts if the law says so. For details, see Section 14.9 of the User Terms.
What if I am a Business User?
If you are a Business User, the laws of England and Wales apply. Roblox and Business Users generally agree to exclusively settle their disputes by arbitration as described in Section 11.2.3 of the User Terms. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim, but this is only relevant to the extent the arbitration clause does not take effect. For details, see Sections 11.2.3 and 14.9 of the User Terms.
